Dead Island

Terror. Violence. Madness. Bedlam. A holiday paradise gone mad. A tropical island turns into total chaos after a mysterious zombie outbreak. Cut off from the rest of the world, the player’s only chance to survive is to fight to the death and find a way to escape from the island.
Deep Silver announced today that it will publish Dead Island™, the upcoming gruesome zombie slasher by renowned developer Techland. Dead Island combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customization of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to 4 players in co-op mode.

Set in an open world tropical island, hordes of different festering zombies await players around every corner while they embark on a variety of thrilling missions through the holiday resort. With firearms and ammunition being scarce the player must rely on utilizing found items as weapons for self-defense and fight off zombie hordes in intense melee combat. A diverse range of items can be collected and will later serve to transform the player’s ordinary makeshift weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

Dead Island is an upcoming open world horror action adventure video game in development by Techland for Microsoft Windows, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 . It is centered on the challenge of survival on a zombie-infested island with a major emphasis on melee combat.

Gameplay

Xian Mei, one of the four main characters, preparing to fight enemies using an axe.

Dead Island will feature open world gameplay, played from a first person perspective, with up to four-player co-operative play. The focus will be on melee combat, incorporating customizable weaponry and RPG elements.

There is an experience system and a skill tree system. There is also a stamina bar, meaning that after a set amount of action with a weapon, the character will need to stop to regain their stamina before continuing to attack. It has also been confirmed that there are "special class" zombies, which are more powerful than the standard enemies.

Plot

The game is set in the Royal Palms Resort, in fictional Banoi, located in Papua New Guinea.
The character wakes up during the night after partying, to find there has been a zombie outbreak.
The first mission serves as the tutorial. The character is trapped in a beach hut with other terrified survivors. One person begs the character to go outside and help a lone person fending off the horde. The character then picks up a lead pipe and walks outside.
